Jay Cutler to Packers DBs: Good Luck

Up until this season, the Green Bay Packers could always count on their defensive backs winning the physical battle against Chicago Bears wide receivers.  With the acquisition of the 6’4”, 235lbs Brandon Marshall and 6’3”, 220lbs rookie Alshon Jeffery, Bears QB Jay Cutler is looking forward to the Packers relying heavily on bump and run coverage. Brett Favre Knew McNabb Wouldn’t Last In Minnesota

Brett Favre’s two year stay in Minnesota was a true roller coaster ride.  Favre lead the Vikings to an NFC Championship Game appearance in 2009 before it all came crashing down the following season.  Rumors of behind the scenes turmoil permeated through out the media.  The Vikings locker room had obviously become a toxic atmosphere.  Favre knew that much when he decided to retire following the 2010 season.   According to Donovan McNabb, Favre expressed a certain amount of angst upon hearing McNabb would be donning the purple and gold. Kevin Ogletree Steals the Show As Cowboys Beat Giants 24-17

Kevin Ogletree realed in eight receptions on eleven targets for 114 yards and two touchdowns to help the Dallas Cowboys get past the New York Giants in the Week 1 opener.  Tony Romo overcame an early interception and shaky offensive line play to go 22/29 for 307 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Fantasy owners who value history should take note – back in 2009, while being flanked by Terrell Owens and Roy Williams, Miles Austin (4 targets, 4 catches, 73 yards, one touchdown), parlayed the WR3 role in the Cowboys offense into an 81 catch, 1,320 yards, 11 touchdown season on his way to finishing as the third ranked wide receiver in fantasy football.  Last season, Laurent Robinson found himself in Ogletree’s current position (playing in the middle of the already mentioned Austin and current Cowboys glamour boy Dez Bryant) and finished the year with 54 catches for 858 yards and 11 touchdowns.  The role of third wide receiver in the Cowboys offensive scheme has a history of producing viable fantasy options.  If Ogletree is available in any of your league’s, he won’t be around much longer.

Maurice Jones-Drew Knows He Has to Earn His Job Back

Maurice Jones-Drew’s summer-long holdout not only resulted in him not receiving the lucrative contract extension he was seeking.  It also lead to him being demoted to second on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ running back depth chart.  Rashad Jennings will get the start for Week 1 as the Jaguars travel to Minnesota to take on the Vikings.  While MJD is supportive of his teammate as he gets acclimated to his new duties, he knows what he has to do in order to get his old job back.
