That sound you just heard was the collective gasp of about eight million plus Bears fans in the Chicago area. After missing a slew of practices over the last few weeks, Urlacher and the team finally put an end to delaying the inevitable. The word this entire offseason has been that Urlacher, the center piece of Chicago’s defense, would be fully recovered from a knee injury suffered in Week 17 of the 2011 season. Now we’re supposed to believe that this “goal” of playing in Week 1 is actually achievable? Yeah, right. I’d love to get an explanation as to why this surgery was put off so long when training camp started over two weeks ago. Had the surgery taken place at the first sign of trouble, Urlacher’s status for the season opener would not be placed in doubt.
