Clay Matthews: Giants Didn’t Beat Us. We Beat Ourselves

The New York Giants shocked many observers when they strolled into Lambeau Field this past January and laid down a 37-20 butt whooping on the defending Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers.  Apparently, Packers defensive end Clay Matthews hasn’t gotten over the loss and refuses to give proper respect the the Boys in Blue. From YahooSports’ Mike Silver:

“We picked the most inopportune time to play our worst ball. The fact is, [the Giants] didn’t beat us; we beat ourselves. We need to play our best ball when it counts. This year, I expect us to be right back where we should be.”

Straight out of the “Dumb Sh!t Athletes Say” department.  Instead of manning up and giving props to the eventual Super Bowl champs, Matthews chooses to throw a little dirt their way.  The Packers may not have played their best game in the NFC Divisional Round matchup.  But the better team won and subsequently went on to hoist up the Lombardi Trophy.
