Sean Payton Getting a Divorce

Sean Payton could sure use a hug right about now.

Let’s recap – Payton was suspended for the entire 2012 without pay (at least $7.5 Million out the window) on top of having his name forever tarnished by the bounty scandal that was allowed to exist under his watch.

Now comes word of the deterioration of Payton’s marriage.  Ryan Jones of The Times-Picayune has more.

New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton has filed for divorce from his wife, Beth, according to a petition from Tarrant County, Texas on June 14.

The petition lists the grounds for divorce as “discord or conflict of personalities between Petitioner and Respondent that destroys the legitimate ends of the marriage relationship and prevents any reasonable expectation of reconciliation.”

This isn’t the first time reports of trouble within Payton’s marriage surfaced.  Here’s a report from from February 2011:

I just received another tip: “I was hanging with Sean over the weekend and he confirmed that he is going through a real rough patch and is getting a divorce, says he has been in talks with the Cowboys to take a front office position then take over as head coach if Jason Garrett (the red head step child) is not better than 500 by the mid way point next season. He is moving back to South Lake Texas to be close to his ex girlfriend because she is pregnant.” I’m starting to actually believe Payton is heading to the Cowboys. -TO

Now, those rumors were unsubstantiated, but it seems as if the writing has been on the wall for a while now.  Luckily for Payton, he’ll have all the time he needs to get this part of his life settled.
