NFL’s Top 10 Players Under 25

Is Cam Newton the Leader of the New School?

NFL.com posted an article listing the NFL’s Top 10 Players under the age of 25. Here’s a breakdown of their list, which was given in no particular order:

  • Linebacker NaVorro Bowman, San Francisco 49ers (Age: 23)
  • Wide Receiver A.J. Green, Cincinnati Bengals (Age: 23)
  • Tight End Rob Gronkowski, New England Patriots (Age: 23)
  • Running back LeSean McCoy, Philadelphia Eagles (Age: 23)
  • Outside Linebacker Von Miller, Denver Broncos (Age: 23)
  • Quarterback Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers (Age: 23)
  • Defensive End Jason Pierre-Paul, New York Giants (Age: 23)
  • Center Maurkice Pouncey, Pittsburgh Steelers (Age: 22)
  • Defensive End Aldon Smith, San Francisco 49ers (Age: 22)
  • Quarterback Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions (Age: 24)

Not too many issues with the names listed. Those are all solid contributors to some of the League’s top teams. If there was one thing I could look at as a point of contention, it might be the inclusion of Matthew Stafford on the list. While his 2011 season was thoroughly impressive (5,000+ passing yards, over 40 touchdown passes), his two previous seasons were marred by injuries that forced him to miss significant time. It seems like his inclusion came at the expense of a few of the author’s “Honorable Mentions”. I would argue that both New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks and Cleveland Browns Cornerback Joe Haden have been a bit more impressive in their young careers. It’s all subjective, and NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah put together a pretty good list nonetheless. Follow the link for the full scoop: Young Guns: Top 10 NFL Players Under the Age of 25
